Roberta Crumplin - Cape Town wedding photographer
For me, being a wedding photographer is an art. Capturing people’s emotions, being unobtrusive and at the same time being aware of form, colour and beauty is a tricky juggling act, but one that I absolutely relish. Things happen quickly at a wedding. People move, lighting changes, emotions run high. To be a good wedding photographer you need to be able to move with the natural ebb and flow of the wedding, to capture its many moods and tones, from expectant, to nervous, solemn, quirky, jubilant, or celebratory. Within the course of the day there are a myriad of faces and situations that are presented to my camera – it’s my job to document all of these things in a way that is sensitive, respectful, and above all relaxed.
In terms of who I am as a person? I prefer being behind the camera as opposed to in front of it; I have an odd-ball sense of humour and am very calm and not easily ruffled. I love strawberries dipped in melted chocolate, my husband (Dan), our dog (Bear) and our two cats (Ninja and Storm). I’m learning to play the piano. I do yoga, and occasionally pilates. My favourite comedian is Eddie Izzard, though Dara O’Brien comes a close second. I’m secretly a bit of a nerd and I play PC games when no-one’s looking.
I have a Fine Arts degree in Painting and Photography as well as an Honours degree in English and History of Art. I’m a qualified teacher and I’ve taught art, photography and English. I’m a full time photographer. Occasionally, because people I know ask me to, I do design work and copywriting.
If you’d like to enquire about booking me as your wedding photographer feel free to get in touch; I’d love to hear from you. Of course, I'm not just a wedding photographer - if you're itnerested in my portrait or commercial photography drop me a line too!
The starting image in the slideshow on this page was taken by Lesley Scott while she was assisting me on a wedding at Grootbos, a private nature reserve in Gansbaai. The 4th image - me with the coffee machine - was taken by Heidi Louw while we were talking photography in her kitchen. The landscapes were taken by me.
