Mada and Jannie’s Couple Shoot

Shooting on the beach is always a bit of a challenge – when I’m shooting in Cape Town it’s usually because the wind’s blowing ten to the dozen and vast quantities of sand are trying to colonise my gear! Shooting Mada and Jannie’s Durban beach wedding was also suprisingly challenging – I don’t know if I have misconceptions about Durban weather, but I tendto think of Durban as hot and balmy, not rainy and wet – which it was.

I have to say though that we were actually blessed by the weather – though it might not look like that at first glance. It stopped raining for the most part when we shot Mada and Jannie’s couple shoot and Lionel and Albert (Jannie’s brother and one of his best mates respectively) came along and carried my gear, my shoes and an umbrella over my cameras – what more could a girl ask for – and Mada and Jannie were so chilled and so completely unfazed by the weather that we ended up having a great time. Of course shooting with the threat of rain, and a bit of actual drizzle, as well as shooting with fairly limited light is always tricky, but when you end up with shots like this it’s all worth it. That sky is so beautifully moody!! Not quite the dazzling sunshine and blue sky that M & J had hoped for, but so beautiful never the less. And apart from the good luck that rain brings on a wedding day, it also brought an enhanced sense of community and shared experience to the small group of family and friends that were part of Mada and Jannie’s special day. ; )
